History of Tipton Hall Riding School

There has been  a riding school at Tipton Hall for over 35 years. It started with Roger’s eldest sister Diana, who worked on the farm and kept a few ponies for riding lessons for local children. After she married and moved away, another sister, Sallie, took over for a few years until she also married and moved away.

There was a short gap with no horse riding at Tipton Hall but then Roger, the youngest Benbow, was persuaded by his mother to train as a BHSAI because the farm was not big enough to support two sons. So in 1989 Roger started teaching children to ride with one pony called Bambi. Over the years the riding school has expanded to some 20 ponies, including a few up and coming youngsters.

The Benbows inherited their love of horses from their father, Dick Benbow, who bred and trained horses for point to pointing, one of which was a winner at Cheltenham. Roger exercised the point to pointers for hisBambi (left), with Rosie father and also rode in several races.
